Personality type was measured using a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator completed by 55 patients of hospitals and eating disorder clinics in western New York, and through eating disorder organizations. Diagnostic and demographic data were given by clinicians.

The tool was given anonymously in clinics and via the research website. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. INFJ (18.5%), INTJ (10.63%), and ENFJ (6.59%) were predominant in the study population. This may justify type-testing, monitoring and screening the general population for eating disorders. Further research using a larger sample is indicated.
